Blowers for Aeration

Get in Touch

Oxygen supply is the foundation of aerobic biological treatment. Without a consistent and adequate air supply, the microorganisms responsible for breaking down organic matter in wastewater cannot function effectively, and treatment performance deteriorates quickly. Aeration blowers provide that air supply, making them one of the most critical pieces of equipment in any biological treatment system.

Three main blower types cover the range of aeration applications. Roots blowers are a proven and reliable choice for sewage and effluent treatment plants, handling variable back pressure without difficulty. Side channel blowers are suited to smaller installations and localised aeration duties where lower air volumes are required. Turbo blowers offer the highest energy efficiency and are the preferred option for larger treatment plants where aeration accounts for a significant proportion of total energy consumption.

Blower selection should be based on the required air volume, system pressure, and energy efficiency targets. Oversizing a blower increases capital cost and reduces operational efficiency, while undersizing risks inadequate aeration and compromised treatment performance. Getting this balance right at the design stage is important.

Aeration blowers are used in activated sludge systems, MBBR reactors, equalisation tanks, and sludge stabilisation processes. In each application, maintaining consistent airflow is essential to keeping the biological process stable and meeting treatment targets.

Low noise and energy-efficient operation are important considerations, particularly for plants located near populated areas or where energy costs are a significant operational expense.
