Control Panel Rectification

Get in Touch

Control panels in water and wastewater treatment plants are exposed to demanding conditions over long operational periods. Heat, humidity, dust, chemical vapours, and continuous operation take their toll on electrical components, wiring, and control devices. Over time, faults develop, performance degrades, and panels that were once reliable begin to cause operational problems. Control panel rectification addresses these issues through systematic fault diagnosis and targeted repair or modification of the affected components.

The starting point for any rectification project is a thorough inspection and fault diagnosis. This involves reviewing the panel layout and wiring against available documentation, testing components for correct function, checking insulation resistance and earthing integrity, and identifying any deviations from the original design that may have been made during the panel’s operational life. A clear understanding of the actual condition of the panel is essential before any remedial work begins.

Common issues encountered during rectification include failed or degraded contactors, relays, and circuit breakers; loose or corroded terminal connections; damaged or mislabelled wiring; failed PLCs, HMIs, or other control devices; and outdated components for which spare parts are no longer readily available. Each of these issues has the potential to cause operational failures, and addressing them systematically restores panel reliability.

PLC and HMI modifications are often part of rectification projects, particularly where the original programme no longer matches the current process configuration or where control logic needs to be updated to reflect changes in the treatment plant. Programme modifications require careful documentation to ensure that the updated logic is understood and can be maintained going forward.

Rectification work can also incorporate protection upgrades, additional monitoring functions, and improvements to the panel’s communication interfaces to support integration with remote monitoring systems.
