How a Water Softener System Works
Water softener systems use an ion exchange process to remove hardness minerals. Feed water passes through a vessel containing cationic ion exchange resin. The resin exchanges calcium and magnesium ions in the water for sodium ions, removing hardness from the treated water.
Once the resin is exhausted, the system automatically initiates a regeneration cycle using sodium chloride (salt) solution, restoring the sodium ions on the resin and returning the softener to full service capacity. Emvees maintains a stock of salt tablets and supplies them across the UAE as part of our after-sales support, ensuring your softener system always has the consumables it needs.
Both timer-based and volumetric-based regeneration modes are available, selected based on your facility’s water consumption pattern and operational preferences.

A simplex softener uses a single tank and requires a planned service window for regeneration during which softened water supply is temporarily interrupted. A duplex commercial water softener system uses two tanks in alternating service, ensuring continuous softened water supply with no interruption. Duplex systems are recommended for facilities that require 24-hour softened water availability.
Ion exchange resin typically lasts between 5 and 10 years depending on water quality, regeneration frequency, and the presence of iron or chlorine in the feed water. When the resin no longer regenerates to full capacity, replacement is required. Emvees supplies and replaces resin for all softener types across the UAE.
Not necessarily. A centralized water filtration system removes suspended solids and particulates but does not remove dissolved hardness minerals. WATER SOFTENER SYSTEMS

Softeners are mainly designed to remove calcium(Ca2+) and magnesium(Mg2+) ions which are referred to as hardness minerals.

The ion exchange resin (cationic resin) gets exhausted once all the Na+ ions have been used up and then the system automatically goes into regeneration, based on the mode of regeneration. The consumable for regeneration is salt, which is NaCl, thus bringing back the Na+ ion on the resins to help further in the process of water softening.
